In Thane, Since the program began to install solar power, 16,300 families in the city have connected to solar water heaters, Mr. Pote, deputy city engineer-Thane (electrical) says. With those efforts, the city today saves enough electricity to power more than 5,000 homes. "This is still a small fraction," Mr. Pote adds. "If we can get at least 25% of the families to start using solar water heaters, we can reduce the city's total electricity consumption by almost 15%."

Eaton's Brand New Engineering Centre at Kharadi

Since its inception in 2003, the engineering center at the Pune campus has grown in scope and size to more than 400 employees with an initial focus on the Fluid Power business,. In recent years, Eaton further expanded the scope of the professional center to include global professional services. The team now performs a full range of high-end engineering and development work for all of Eaton’s business segments. It has become an integral part of Eaton’s global engineering workforce, emerging as a major product engineering, design and development center for Eaton’s global customers.
This new facility of Eaton will house an estimated 1,300 employees by 2010.
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) is continuing to enhance its presence in India through a new and expanded Pune-based, Professional Services Center. The center will include engineering support, research, product development, financial shared services and other Information Technology-enabled services.

Defence Science Forum
Defence Research & Development Organisation is engaged in developing indigenous knowledge and technology to look after the needs of defence forces. It is well known that almost all the areas of technology development are interdisciplinary in nature for which specialists belong to different specialties like Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and their sub-specialties need to interact in a constructive and cohesive manner. Only then the lofty goal of upliftment of machine and man-behind-the machine can be achieved.
In order to develop a common platform where scientists of various disciplines could interact for mutual development the Defence Science Forum has been created in the year 1994 keeping in mind the objectives of interaction of scientists of various disciplines, to foster fellowship, exchange of ideas with luminaries of different disciplines and feasibility & planning of all inter-disciplinary projects where expert opinion is required.
To meet these objectives periodical invited lectures, colloquium and seminars are organised by this forum. Besides these Defence Science Forum also organise special functions on National Science Day and on Technology Day.
DSF celebrates National Science Day on 28th February and National Technology Day on 11th May every year.

According to a CAG report tabled in Parliament "sub optimal performance of three PTAs (Lakshya-I) delivered to the IAF made IAF to refuse delivery of the remaining 12.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been held responsible for pushing ahead with production despite prototype not meeting the qualitative requirement of IAF. Even after spending Rs. 165 crore over a period of 27 years, the efforts of DRDO and HAL have not become fruitful.
